Young Adult Ministry Coordinator
Accountability
Reports to the Director of Evangelization
Hours
The part-time year-round position will routinely require evening/weekend duties (potential for the role to be expanded full-time).
Job Responsibilities
The Young Adult Ministry Coordinator takes primary responsibility for coordinating, planning, and implementing events for young adults (18 to 35 years old) that are designed to foster evangelization, engagement with the Catholic faith, social opportunities, and spiritual growth.
Other responsibilities include:
- Working closely with the Director of Evangelization to accomplish the goals of young adult ministry set forth by the pastor and parish council.
- Running Alpha which is a program that presents the Kerygma in a way that is engaging to unchurched, none’s, or fallen away young adults, offers a meal and encourages discussion in a welcoming environment.
- Establishing a core team of young adults who are prayerful, evangelistic, and service-oriented to move young adult ministry from maintenance to mission and help plan and implement evangelistic, social, spiritual, and faith formation events throughout the year.
- Promoting young adult events to the University of Michigan students and to our greater young adult community by tabling at the university, overseeing GroupMe, handing out flyers, and working with St Mary’s Student Church, Catholic Student Evangelization, and other Catholic young adult groups.
- Relational ministry outreach to college-aged students at the University of Michigan.
- Plan or promote retreat opportunities for young adults.
- Help foster small group young adult communities.
- Manage student organization on campus.
Working with the Director of Evangelization, the Young Adult Ministry Coordinator takes primary responsibility for outreach to young adult populations, especially UM’s campus and other student environments within our scope.
The young Adult Ministry Coordinator shares responsibility with the rest of the team for the multi-system goals outlined in our Pastoral Strategic Plan:
- Fostering a culture of hospitality: invitation, welcome, accompaniment
- Fostering a culture of prayer
- Fostering a culture of appreciation and encouragement
- Developing leadership within the parish
- Fostering the connection between parish staff and active parishioners, inculcating the vision and mission plan

- Good computer skills; well-versed in the use of social media or willing to learn
- Ability to use or learn common platforms for administration and communication, including but not limited to Mission Pathways. Powerpoint, Excel, Google Docs/Sheets, Jot Form,, SignUpGenius, Canva
- Communicates well both orally and in writing; displays emotional intelligence and the ability to listen well and constructively manage sensitive issues/conflict
- Responsive to communication in a timely manner; able to prioritize and multitask
Skills/Gifts
Education/Certification
- Possesses current and broad knowledge of Catholic doctrine, evangelization, and young adult ministry trends and best practice; committed to ongoing learning and formation.
- Minor or Major in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Evangelization, or Catechetics preferred.
- Supports the basic principles of parish renewal outlined in Divine Renovation: Bringing your Parish from Maintenance to Mission by Fr. James Mallon
- Needs to pass a background check and show evidence of participation in the DOL “Safe Environment” program for the protection of children and youth
Physical Demands
- May have to sit for long periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, and answer telephone calls; also requires some standing, stooping, bending and lifting a minimum of 40 lbs.
- Must work on-site as needed; occasional weekend work is required.

Job Responsibilities
In consultation and collaboration with the Directors Ministry, the Ministry Assistant takes responsibility for
- The administration of different evangelization series such as Alpha, Metanoia, The Rescue Project, and similar programs. This includes, but not limited to, setting up registration in Mission Pathways, ordering resources, recruiting & coordinating volunteers, coordinating food and set up, running errands, making name tags, creating small groups, and registering people at the event.
- Coordinating with the Director of Communication to develop promotional materials and a marketing plan for ministry events.
- Help behind the scenes with administrative tasks for evangelization training, parish missions, retreats, and parish events.
- Coordinating with the Director of Faith Formation in assisting with registration for religious education, Confirmation, RCIA, and other faith formation-related activities/programs.
- Reaching out to potential speakers for future parish missions and events.
- Maintaining the Mission Pathways database.
- Helping to create evaluation surveys after major events.
- Assisting with ongoing communication with participants through GroupMe, texting, and email.
- Working with the Directors of Ministry to recruit, train, and support volunteers.
