St. Thomas the Apostle is a thriving parish and school community with nearly 2,000 registered families and students. With the regular influx of young people and others engaged at the University of Michigan, each year we welcome 200 new families to our community. You are welcome to join us, too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our mission is rooted in the life of our patron, St. Thomas the Apostle, who encountered Christ, encouraged faith, and enlivened hearts. We strive to do the same! Journey with us to encounter the Risen Christ as we grow<\/em><\/strong> in faith and go<\/em><\/strong> out to evangelize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church is a welcoming community that exists to make and equip missionary disciples through a transformative encounter with Jesus Christ, the Gate of Heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As Spirit-filled disciples, we connect and share life together, love and serve the greater community, and worship and adore the living God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Catholic immigrants from Ireland and Germany settled in this area beginning in the 1820s. They built the original church of St. Thomas the Apostle, the first Catholic parish in Ann Arbor, and dedicated it in on August 6, 1845. The dedication happened on the very day that the first commencement exercises were taking place at the University of Michigan. Our parish school opened in 1868. The Catholic community in Ann Arbor continued to grow and diversify as the city and university expanded. The current church building was built in 1899.<\/p>\n\n\n\nOur Vision Statement<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
