Laudate Youth Choir

Sacred Choral Excellence for God’s Glory

The purpose of the Laudate Youth Choir is to glorify God through excellent sacred choral music, forming the next generation in Catholic musical liturgy, and cultivating an uplifting, faith-filled community for young singers in the greater Ann Arbor area. Singers will learn singing technique, ensemble skills, and music artistry and literacy while singing the Mass Ordinary, sacred choral anthems, hymns, motets, and chants.

The ensembles will sing at the liturgy for a few Masses at Ann Arbor parishes during the school year. The choir will also sing in the Pueri Cantores Festival and in events at local parishes such as the St. Thomas Hymn Festival, Lessons and Carols, and the Easter Concert.

Three Ensembles:

Laudate Youth Choir welcomes those who share our love for Jesus and are eager to create music that glorifies God. Please click here to sign up for an Ensemble Placement Hearing to be placed in one of our ensembles.

  • Jubilate: A good fit for singers in grades 4-8 who are able to match pitch and demonstrate the ability to sing in head voice.
  • Cantica Caeli: A good fit for singers in grades 7-12 who are able to match pitch, sing with healthy technique, and demonstrate some ability to sing harmony.
  • Familia: An opportunity for all singers in grades 4 through adult to sing a few times a year. This choir is an excellent option for those who are unable to participate in our other ensembles throughout the year due to scheduling conflicts or skill readiness. It provides an opportunity to engage with our musical community at a comfortable level.

Rehearsals:

At St. Thomas in the parish office building Room 252 as follows:

  • Jubilate: September through May on Mondays, 4:20-5:20 p.m.
  • Cantica Caeli:September through May on Mondays, 5:30-6:50 p.m.
  • Familia: Rehearse 2-3 pieces in a mini-retreat format (likely a 3-hour Saturday morning event) just before scheduled events which could include singing at the Hymn Festival, Lessons and Carols, and/or Easter Concert.

Leadership:

Hannah Bingham, the director of the Laudate Youth Choir ensembles, brings over 20 years of experience in choral conducting across diverse settings, including churches, community youth choirs, and both public and private schools. Hannah has dedicated her career to nurturing young voices, having served as a middle school vocal music teacher for Saline Area Schools and as the founding artistic director of the former Viva Voce Youth Choir. She is thrilled to help launch this new program, where she can blend her passion for sacred choral music, teaching young singers, her Catholic faith, and her commitment to singing music that glorifies God.

Fees:

The Laudate Youth Choir is designed to be accessible and affordable for families, offering a range of tuition options and discounts.  Please note that tuition alone does not cover the full cost of the program; therefore, we will be relying on fundraising efforts at concert events to support our activities and resources.

  • Tuition fees for the year are $275 for Cantica Caeli participants and $250 for Jubilate participants, with an option of splitting the cost into multiple payments.
  • We are pleased to offer a 10% discount for siblings, ensuring that families can enjoy reduced rates when enrolling multiple children.
  • Any participants from one household beyond the third child can attend the program free of charge.
  • Participation in Familia would involve a nominal fee per event to cover the cost of music and accompanists.
  • Scholarships are available for those who need financial assistance, allowing all interested participants the opportunity to join our choir community.

Ensemble Placement Hearings

Singers, please sign up for a time below to come meet Mrs. Bingham and spend time singing together! This is a warm, friendly environment where she would love to get to know you and your voice. This time together will help determine which ensemble will be the best fit for you this year. Mrs. Bingham will lead you in some simple vocal warm-up exercises and hear you sing verse one of the hymn “Holy God, We Praise Thy Name.” Please use the PDF and recording below to prepare. Ensemble Placement Hearings will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church parish office building, Room 252. We can’t wait to meet you!
